It has been revealed this month that the Office of Fair Trading has become involved in a worrying issue for university students that have non-academic study debts.

The National Union of Students conducted their own research into what they consider to be potentially unfair university terms and conditions which state that a university could be within their rights to prevent a student from graduating from their degree or stop them from continuing onto a further years study if the student had outstanding debts. In addition these same terms and conditions allow for many universities to suspend or revoke a student’s access to library or email facilities, even if the student has fully paid tuition fees.

Bear in mind that technically an outstanding debt which could invoke a student being suspended from study could be something as small as an overdue library fine.
